Universal Basic Infrastructure (UBIf) is an emerging civic infrastructure movement focused on helping communities organize practical projects that increase local resilience, shared capacity, and access to useful resources.
UBIf begins locally by listening to residents, identifying existing community assets, developing practical infrastructure projects, building partnerships, and measuring what works.
UBIf is currently in an early organizing and project-development stage. Proposed projects are not yet operational.
What UBIf Is
UBIf focuses on practical local infrastructure across many areas. Communities may choose different priorities depending on actual local needs and existing resources.

What UBIf Is Not
Not a promise
Every proposed project will be built. We identify needs and develop plans, but projects depend on community support, funding, and partnerships.
Not a replacement for government
UBIf works with local government where possible, but is not a substitute for public services or democratic processes.
Not a duplicate of existing services
We should not replace existing nonprofits, schools, businesses, cooperatives, or community organizations that already work well.
Not unrepresentative organizing
A small group cannot claim to speak for an entire community. Broader support must be demonstrated through transparent outreach and evidence.
How a Local Chapter Grows
3–8 Founding Organizers
A small reliable team that meets, researches needs, recruits residents, contacts partners, develops project plans, and follows through on tasks.
10–30+ Active Participants & Volunteers
People who help with specific projects, outreach, events, research, technical work, construction, food projects, or other defined tasks.
Broader Community Support
Residents who express interest through surveys, conversations, website signups, public meetings, interviews, letters of support, or other forms of participation.
Partners & Institutions
Town government, schools, nonprofits, businesses, landowners, libraries, churches, cooperatives, technical experts, and other organizations that help make projects possible.
Pilot Project
A practical local project moves from idea to planning, funding, implementation, measurement, and replication.
A chapter does not need hundreds of people before it can begin organizing. However, a small founding team should not claim to speak for the whole community. Broader support should be demonstrated through transparent outreach and evidence.

Ways You Can Participate
Stay Informed
Receive updates and follow project development.
Attend Meetings or Events
Participate in discussions, orientations, public meetings, or project events.
Volunteer Occasionally
Help with one-time tasks, events, or outreach.
Join a Project Team
Work consistently on one specific project.
Offer Your Skills
Contribute professional or technical expertise in construction, gardening, organizing, engineering, accounting, grant writing, cooking, education, IT, communications, transportation, legal, fundraising, or design.
Help With Outreach
Participate in door knocking, flyers, community conversations, events, social media, or recruitment.
Become a Core Organizer
Help coordinate the local chapter and move projects forward.
Start or Expand a Chapter
Help organize UBIf in a community where no chapter exists or help expand to a new region.
Partner With UBIf
For schools, municipalities, nonprofits, businesses, landowners, foundations, community organizations, or other institutions.
How We Organize Responsibly
Listen first. Understand resident needs before deciding what to build.
Distinguish ideas from reality. Clearly separate proposed projects from those actually operational.
Be honest about partnerships. Do not claim partnerships that do not exist.
Be honest about funding. Do not claim funding that has not been secured.
Demonstrate community support. Do not claim to represent an entire community without evidence.
Manage money formally. Do not collect or manage money informally.
Protect privacy. Use member information only for legitimate organizing purposes.
Work with existing organizations. Partner rather than duplicate effective services.
Record decisions honestly. Document important decisions and project progress accurately.
Learn publicly. Publish lessons, including failures and corrections.
Where UBIf Is Right Now
UBIf is currently in an early organizing and pilot-development stage.
Warrensburg, New York is the founding community where UBIf was established.
The current website includes proposed and developing infrastructure projects. Projects should be understood according to their listed status.
⚠ Do not assume that funding, municipal approval, partnerships, or infrastructure exist unless explicitly stated. We distinguish between ideas, plans in development, and projects that are actually operational.
